Different Types of Suction Sand Blasting Guns
Suction Sand Blasting Gun, designed for fast efficient sand blasting, and liquid or air cleaning of parts and surfaces, is a kind of powerful tool for removing corrosion, mill scale, old paint, heat treatment residue, carbon buildup, tool marks, burrs, and many other materials. It’s also widely used in the making of frosted glass in the factory.
The composition of the liner material determines its wear resistance. It can be stainless steel and Aluminum. There are also boron carbide, silicon carbide, and tungsten carbide nozzle inserts installed in the blast gun. The taper and length of the nozzle’s inlet and outlet determine the pattern and velocity of the abrasive exiting the nozzle.
There are various types of suction blasting guns, in this article, you will learn some popular types of blasting guns on the market.
1. BNP Blast Gun
The BNP gun directs a high-speed mixture of air and abrasive to quickly remove corrosion, mill scale, coatings, heat treatment residue, carbon buildup, tool marks, and burrs. The blast stream from a BNP gun can produce a uniform texture or create an etched finish to increase bonding strength for coatings.
Features:
The gun body is made of high-impact resistance cast/machined aluminum
Gun assembly includes gun body, orifice with locknut, O-ring, and nozzle holding nut; nozzle ordered separately
The gun keeps the air jet and blast nozzle precisely aligned to maximize blast efficiency and minimize gun-body wear
A comfortable pistol-grip design reduces operator fatigue and increases productivity during prolonged blasting
A knurled nut at the gun outlet allows the operator to change nozzles without tools
Adjustable bracket allows gun fixture in all possible blast directions
Accepts a variety of nozzles such as boron carbide/silicon carbide /tungsten carbide/ceramics nozzle inserts and angle tips, so you can select the most suitable nozzle type for the application
It can use a special extension or angled tip nozzles in specific applications
Gun components such as air jet, nozzle insert, nozzle sleeve, and flange nut can be replaced separately to save costs
Works with most recyclable blast media – steel grit and shot, silicon carbide, garnet, aluminum oxide, glass bead, and ceramics
Operation:
1) The air jet at the back of the nozzle directs a high-speed stream of compressed air through the mixing chamber and out the nozzle. The rapid passage of this air generates negative pressure, causing blast media to flow into the mixing chamber and out the nozzle. This technology is widely known as suction blasting.
2) The operator holds the BNP gun at a predetermined distance and angle, relative to the blasted surface. The BNP gun can clean, finish, or peen the part being blasted. By moving the gun and the part, the operator quickly covers as much of the surface as needed blasting.
3) A cast-in hole at the top allows the operator to attach the BNP gun to a fixed bracket (not included). The part can then be moved under the nozzle for blasting, freeing the operator’s hands to manipulate the part.
4) When the part is sufficiently processed, the operator releases the pedal to stop blasting.
2. Type V Suction Blasting Gun
Type V blasting gun directs a high-speed mixture of air and abrasive to quickly remove corrosion, coatings, heat treatment residue, or other substances.
Features:
The gun body is made of integrally-formed aluminum alloy, high wear-resistance in lightweight
The gun keeps the air jet and blast nozzle precisely aligned to maximize blast efficiency and minimize gun-body wear
A knurled nut at the gun outlet allows the operator to change nozzles without tools
Adjustable bracket allows gun fixture in all possible blast directions
Accepts a variety of nozzles and extensions such as boron carbide/silicon carbide /tungsten carbide/ceramics nozzle inserts, so the operator can select the best nozzle size and nozzle composition for the application
Air jets equipped with boron carbide protection tubes, decrease the abrasion when abrasives get in and greatly increase the gun's working life
Abrasive inlets are available in 19mm and 25mm, with air jet opening in 1/2” (13mm)
Gun components such as air jet, nozzle insert, nozzle sleeve, and flange nut can be replaced separately to save costs
Works with most recyclable blast media – steel grit and shot, silicon carbide, garnet, aluminum oxide, glass bead, and ceramics
Operation:
1) With all related equipment correctly assembled and tested, the operator points the nozzle at the surface to be cleaned and presses the remote control handle to begin blasting.
2) The operator holds the nozzle 18 to 36 inches from the surface and moves it smoothly at a rate that produces the desired cleanliness. Each pass should overlap slightly.
3) The operator must replace the nozzle once the orifice wears 1/16-inch beyond its original size.
3. Type A Suction Blasting Gun
Type A sandblast gun is designed for fast efficient sand blasting, and liquid or air cleaning of parts and surfaces. It is a powerful tool for removing tar, rust, old paint, and many other substances, applicable to box manual sandblasting machines and box-type automatic sandblasting machines.
Feature:
The gun body is made of die-casting aluminum alloy or PU material, high wear-resistance in lightweight
Two types of abrasive inlets methods: thread type and straight-in type; for straight-in type, the abrasive inlet diameter is 22mm; for thread type, the abrasive inlet opening is 13mm; air jet openings are all 13mm
A knurled nut at the gun outlet allows the operator to change nozzles without tools
Adjustable bracket allows gun fixture in all possible blast directions
Gun components such as air jet, nozzle insert, nozzle sleeve, and flange nut can be replaced separately to save costs
Generally used with a boron carbide blasting nozzle in an outer diameter of 20mm and length of 35mm
Thicken aluminum alloy gun body and big air jet make the circulation space limited, which is more suitable for fine grain size blasting media
Can be worked in both dry and wet blasting
Suitable for glass, aluminum, and others also are used to clean structural parts, mechanical parts and products, and other items.
Operation:
1) The operator inserts the nozzle washer into a thread nozzle holder and screws in the nozzle, turning it by hand until it seats firmly against the washer.
2) With all related equipment correctly assembled and tested, the operator points the nozzle at the surface to be cleaned and presses the remote control handle to begin blasting.
3) The operator holds the nozzle 18 to 36 inches from the surface and moves it smoothly at a rate that produces the desired cleanliness. Each pass should overlap slightly.
4) The operator must replace the nozzle once the orifice wears 1/16-inch beyond its original size.
4. Type B Suction Blasting Gun
Type B suction blasting gun is designed for efficient blasting and high-pressure liquid cleaning of parts and surfaces. It is excellent for various works including glass blasting, removing rust, paint, and scale on automobiles, hot tubs, and other surfaces.
